Bride turns into Mike Tyson and bites off husband’s ear for having beer with friend

The home coming of a couple in Galatha in Gampola ended up in a dispute yesterday when the bride assaulted the groom for enjoying a beer with one of his friends.

The bride who lost her temper had bitten off a piece of the groom’s ear, Mike Tyson style, had assaulted his sister and verbally abused his father and mother.

She had then thrown her wedding ring on the groom indicating that the marriage would end.

Investigations into the incident were conducted by the Gampola police after the bride’s family called the 119 as the groom’s family had allegedly sent some people to threaten the bride’s family following the incident. 

Investigations revealed that the bride and groom had been in love for about seven years. The bride is from Gampola and the groom from the Galatha area. 

Police said the groom had enjoyed a beer with his friend just as the couple arrived from the honeymoon. He had reached home after about half an hour, missing an auspicious time, resulting in the dispute.

Police had rushed to the scene on information received through the Police Emergency Service to prevent a further clash between the relatives of the two parties.

The police are conducting further investigations and are attempting to save their marriage by settling the dispute.(Suranga Rajanayaka)
