Colombo, November 11 (Daily Mirror) - The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has initiated an investigation into the documentary telecast by Britain’s Channel 4 TV on Sri Lanka’s Easter Sunday bomb attacks in 2019.
The documentary, titled 'Sri Lanka’s Easter Bombings', telecast on September 6, 2023, includes a statement from Muhammad Millar Muhammad Hansir, also known as Azad Hansir Maulana, who was a media presenter and finance secretary for the Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal (TMVP) party led by former State Minister Sivaneshthurai Chandrakanthan, also known as Pillaiyan.
Police said that an external organization has submitted a formal complaint to the Ministry of Public Security regarding the documentary. The complaint was subsequently forwarded to Police Headquarters and handed over to the CID for further investigations.
The CID is investigating several charges, including the dissemination of controversial information about the Easter Sunday bomb attacks and potential conspiracies mentioned in the Penal Code.
The department has also presented the matter to the Fort Magistrate's Court on November 11, police said.
