Nuwara Eliya, Dec 08 (Daily Mirror) - Three suspects, including a cashier and a driver from the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) depot in Nuwara Eliya, have been arrested in connection with the murder of a security officer at the depot and the theft of over Rs. 1 million.
Police launched an investigation after the 85-year-old security officer was hacked to death on December 6 and Rs. 1,052,167 was stolen.
The victim, identified as K. Logeshwaran (85), was a resident of the Galpaya area in Nuwara Eliya.
Police investigations revealed that the money was stolen from a cabinet at the SLTB depot after the security officer was killed.
The suspects, aged between 34 and 55, are residents of Badulla and Mahawa, were arrested in connection with the crime and remanded until December 19 after being produced in the Nuwara Eliya Magistrate's Court.
