Scotland's Charlie Cassell broke Kagiso Rabada's record for best bowling figures on ODI debut. Cassell ended with magical figures of 7/21 in 5.4 overs in the ODI match against Oman.

Scotland fast bowler Charlie Cassell has earned the record for the best bowling figures on ODI debut. The record was previously held by South Africa's speedster Kagiso Rabada, who had taken 6 for 16 on his ODI debut against Bangladesh on July 25. Scotland's Cassell bettered his record by ending with match figures of 7 for 21 in 5.4 overs. He achieved this feat during the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 match against Scotland in Dundee on July 22, Monday. These are also the 7th best bowling figures by a player in ODIs.

"You've come back from a huge setback, with that massive injury you had, put you out for a year and a bit," Scotland captain Richie Berrington said while presenting Cassell with his cap before the game against Oman. "Just to see your resilience coming back, getting back on the park, and just love watching what you do at Forfs (Forfashire), and just the way how you hold yourself is incredible."

Cassell was added to the Scotland squad for the match against Oman on July 15. He was announced as a replacement for fast bowler Chris Sole, who was unavailable for personal reasons.

Cassell made a brilliant start to his international career, trapping Zeeshan Maqsood lbw on his very first ball of international cricket. On the very next delivery, breached the defences of Ayaan Khan. This was the first-ever instance of a bowler having picked up wickets off his first two balls in ODI cricket on debut. He missed out on a hat-trick but two balls later, Cassell dismissed Khalid Kail. In his second over, he had Shoaiub Khan caught out and had figures of 1.3-1-0-4.

Mehran Khan became Cassell's fifth wicket as he joined an elite list of 15 players who had picked up a five-wicket haul on their ODI debut. He went on to dismiss Pratik Athavale and Bilal Khan to take his record seventh wicket in his maiden international outing. Cassell's magical 7 for 21 helped Scotland dismiss Oman for 91 in 21.4 overs. (indiatoday)
