Chewing betel and spitting, Badulla Municipality to book bus drivers, conductors, passengers

Badulla Municipal Council’s health department has decided to take legal action against individuals spitting in public places after a chew of betel or smearing chunam in quid of betel on walls in public buildings.

During a recent raid, the Public Health Inspectors netted 20 individuals and decided to file action against them. Among them were several bus drivers and conductors and passengers waiting for buses in the main bus stand.

Head PHI H.T. Tilakasiri said they were continuing raids on the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Jagath Priyashantha.
