Court orders detention of eight suspects over gang rape

June 23 (Daily Mirror) - Acting Magistrate Priyanka Madduma Patabandi today ordered the detention and interrogation of eight youths, including one who is reportedly the boyfriend of the victim, for 48 hours following their arrest in connection with the alleged gang rape of a 16-year-old student in the Hanwella area.

The order was issued after the Hanwella Police requested additional time to detain and interrogate the suspects. 

The group, comprising residents of the Jaltara area in Ranala, was presented in court earlier today.

The victim, a 16-year-old student, reported the assault to local authorities, prompting a swift investigation that led to the arrests.
