Colombo , September 30 (Daily Mirror) - Colombo Chief Magistrate Thilina Gamage today ordered the Police to file the voice recording analysis report of match-fixing suspect Thamim Rahman, before court on October 10.
Rahman, the owner of the Dambulla Thunders team, is alleged to have been involved in manipulating the player auction with the intention of procuring players to be involved in match-fixing during the tournament.
This order was made by the Magistrate upon the Police Special Investigation Unit informing the Magistrate that the initial investigations by them had disclosed that the suspect’s voice analysis had established his involvement in match-fixing.
Rahman, who is a co-owner of the Dambulla Thunders, was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport when he tried to leave the country.
Earlier, Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kakulawela remanded him till May 31 in order to conduct a voice analysis of the suspect.
It was revealed that Rahman had engaged in a conversation with the complainant for over an hour in April in violation of Sections 5, 6 and 8 of the Prevention of Sports-Related Offences Act of 2019.
Rahman on arriving in Colombo on April 22, had met a group of individuals at the Shangri-La Hotel, and later convened with the complainant at the Dutch Burger Union in Colombo to discuss the match-fixing.
