Colombo, December 10 (Daily Mirror) - As part of the schools' digitalisation programme, a mobile app named 'MyDS' has been introduced to connect schools, students and parents into a unified system.

DS Senanayake College, Colombo, became the first school in the country to launch this innovative mobile app.

Initially, it has been implemented as a pilot project for the grade 1,2, 8 and 9 students, College Principal Sampath Weragoda said.

He said each student will be provided with a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) card free of charge. Upon the issue of the RFID card, parents will receive instant notifications regarding their children's attendance as soon as they enter the school premises. The system automatically identifies individual students through RFID technology.

"The app also offers several additional features. Parents can check their children’s examination marks, while class teachers can update term test marks as needed. Teachers can retrieve daily attendance records and examination marks, send school-issued messages directly to parents and access analytical data required by the school management to monitor educational progress," the Principal said.

Plans are underway to expand the app's functionality by integrating library services and other school-provided services in the future, he said.

This mobile app was launched with the approval of the School Development Committee (SDC) and under the permission of the Ministry of Education.
