Debate on Regulation of Election Expenditure Bill to be taken up tomorrow

The Business Committee of Parliament has decided to take up the Regulation of Election Expenditure Bill for debate tomorrow.

The Opposition urged the Speaker not to take up the Bill for debate at this moment claiming that it was a move to postpone Local Government election.

The Ministerial Consultative Committee on Justice, Prisons Affairs and Constitutional Reforms yesterday decided to postpone the Bill by one months’ time on a request made by Members of Parliament.

Party leaders meeting headed by President Ranil Wickremesinghe was held at Parliament complex this afternoon to discuss the matter and a business committee meeting was held thereafter with the Speaker in chair.
