Colombo, October 16 (Daily Mirror) - Naval and fishing communities are advised not to venture into the sea areas as the low-pressure area over south-east Bay of Bengal is likely to move west-north-westwards and become a depression, the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre of the Meteorology Department said.

They said the depression will reach north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and adjoining South Andhra Pradesh coasts by tomorrow.

Therefore, strong winds up to 70 kmph, accompanied by heavy rainfalls and very rough seas are likely over these sea areas.

Hence, the naval and fishing communities are advised not to venture into the sea areas marked by the “Warning” category on the map below till tomorrow.

The swell waves about 3.0 metres in height may increase in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.

There is a possibility that nearshore sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota may experience surges due to swell waves.

Naval and fishing communities are also requested to be attentive to future forecasts issued by the Meteorology Department in this regard.
