The Mahanayake Theras of all three Chapters said they had requested President Ranil Wickremesinghe not to remove security personnel assigned for the development and security of Buddhist religious places with historical importance in the north, east and other areas in the country.

The Prelates in a letter to the President said that it was the duty of the State to ensure the safety and existence of the Buddhist religious places.

“The security forces have been making an immense contribution to safeguard and maintain the Buddhist religious places in the north and east since the war while providing all assistance to the Buddhist monks.

"Removing security forces from those places will hamper the development of those places," the letter said. (Ajith Siriwardana)
