EC announces persons authorised to enter polling stations

Colombo, September 18 (Daily Mirror) - The Election Commission of Sri Lanka has announced the individuals authorised to enter polling stations during the upcoming Presidential election on September 21, 2024. 

According to the Commission, only specific persons are allowed into the polling stations, including registered voters at the respective polling station, the polling staff and police officers assigned for election duties. 

Presidential candidates contesting the election, along with their election agents, authorised agents, divisional agents and duly appointed polling agents are also granted access. 

Furthermore, representatives of local or foreign election monitoring organizations approved by the Election Commission and officers authorised by the respective Returning Officers are permitted entry.

In addition, the Election Commission has highlighted illegal activities that must be avoided at polling and counting centres. 

These include using mobile phones, taking photographs, recording videos, possessing firearms and smoking or consuming alcohol. 

It is also prohibited to enter the centres while under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicants.
