Easter Sunday attacks: Maithripala seeks further time to pay compensation

Filing a motion before the Supreme Court, former President Maithripala Sirisena has sought further time to pay the remaining sum of Rs.85 million as compensation to the victims of the Easter Sunday attacks.

The motion filed on behalf of former President Sirisena stated that he has already paid a total sum of Rs.15 million to Office for Reparations as per the judgment delivered by Supreme Court dated January 12, 2022.

The former President stated that he would pay the remaining sum of Rs. 85 million in 10 equal instalments of Rs. 8,500,000 per annum commencing from 30th June 2024 and ending on 30th June 2033. Filing a motion before the Supreme Court, former President Maithripala Sirisena has sought further time to pay the remaining sum of Rs.85 million as compensation to the victims of the Easter Sunday attacks.
