Farbrace turns down SL, to remain with Warwickshire

Sri Lanka’s search for a new head coach to replace Mickey Arthur hit a roadblock, after it was announced that Paul Farbrace would remain in the coaching staff at Warwickshire. 

It was reported that the Englishman had been in talks with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and was their preferred candidate, but Farbrace has committed to continuing his role in the West Midlands. 

Farbrace was not among the candidates who applied for the post, it was reported, but SLC had approached him about returning to the role he held in 2014. 

That stint, that lasted three months of a two year contract, brought with a successful run in the T20 World Cup in 2014, where Sri Lanka beat India to claim the title for the first time. 

Soon after that triumph, Farbrace resigned to take up the Assistant Coach of the England team, under then newly-appointed Head Coach Peter Moores. 

According to sources at SLC, the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) and Mahela Jayewardene had interviewed several candidates, a few of whom, like Farbrace, had not applied for the post but were approached by SLC. 

"He had experience of working with the Sri Lankan team in the past and the board was in discussions with him,” a source said. 
Another source said that there was nothing more than a conversation, and that Farbrace had decided against taking the post.
