Foreigner dies swimming off Unawatuna beach

A 61-year-old Malaysian national died last evening while swimming in the sea off the Unawatuna beach, police said.

Habaraduwa Police said the foreigner was likely dragged to sea by the rip currents in the area.

He was rescued by lifesavers but died on admission to the Karapitiya Hospital in Galle.

Meanwhile, a 56-year-old woman died last night while she was bathing in the 'D' canal in the Aselapura area of the Welikanda police area.

The victim is a resident of Welikanda, Aselapura.

Welikanda police are conducting further investigations.
