Future uncertain, whoever becomes leader fails after three years in power: Rahula Thera

Colombo, August 30 (Daily Mirror) - It is uncertain whether this country can ever be led in the right direction. Whoever comes to power seems to rule for only three years before their authority falls apart, founder of the National Namal Uyana, Ven. Wanawasi Rahula Thera said.

Addressing a media gathering at the Namal Uyana yesterday, he said most of the candidates running for this Presidential election used to visit him. He had told them to protect the people, safeguard the territorial integrity of the country and promote economic development. They intended to announce their manifesto, which aims to provide a comfortable life for the people, free from suffering.

"Every Presidential candidate has certain visions. When reading and talking about some people's backgrounds, most of the promises given during Presidential elections cannot be fulfilled. In order to develop this country, the people's attitudes should be changed. There is no system in the country to create a national identity or to create educational, health and economic development. It is necessary to bring a change in the attitude of our people," the thera said. 

“When considering all these facts, I have a question as to whether this country can be taken in the right direction, he said.
