Colombo, October 23 (Daily Mirror) - A National Security Advisor should be reappointed to the country to prevent potential threats from terrorist groups, former Presidential advisor Sagala Rathnayaka said.
Addressing the media today, he said that as the country's tourism industry is growing, news of such threats could severely harm the nation. The current government must ensure these situations do not arise, he said.
"Our government had established an intelligence-sharing network with other countries. Through this network, we ensured the safety of the country while exchanging critical information. As a result, Sri Lanka did not face any major threats in recent years. We received information about potential threats, but we took necessary action in a timely manner," he explained.
He further said that if the current government had taken the required measures, these threats would not have emerged.
"Issuing statements that cause harm to the country's image will negatively impact the economy, create issues in securing foreign exchange and hinder job opportunities and business activities. Such announcements will directly affect the tourism industry, which is crucial to the country's economy,” he added.
