Govt. to purchase three new CT scan machines worth Rs. 750 Mn

The Government is to spend a sum of Rs 750 million to acquire three CT scan machines, Daily Mirror learns.

According to sources from the Health Ministry, the existing CT scan machines in the Emergency Unit of the National Hospital in Colombo, the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital and the Kalutara Base Hospital are currently out of order, prompting the need for replacement machines worth Rs. 750 million.

The Health Ministry has determined that the three CT scan machines cannot be repaired and must be replaced with new ones.

Consequently, one machine will be purchased using government funds, while the remaining two will be procured through a loan facility provided by the Asian Development Bank.

Out of the 44 CT scan machines in government hospitals,12 were previously nonfunctional. However, the Ministry has taken measures to restore six machines, and repairs for the remaining three machines are still pending.

Twelve CT scan machines in the Emergency Unit of the National Hospital in Colombo, the others in the Kurunegala, Karapitiya, Trincomalee, Hambantota, Badulla, Ratnapura, Kalutara, Horana, National Dental Hospital, Sirimavo Bandaranaike Specialized Children's Hospital and Matara Hospital were reported to be dysfunctional a month ago.
