Six teachers, including a school principal in an examination centre in Anuradhapura, who had allegedly shared the first question paper of the Grade Five scholarship examination using a mobile phone, were taken into custody by the officials of the Examinations Department.

According to investigations, the individuals had allegedly shared the photos of the first question paper ten minutes before the commencement of the examination.

Accordingly, the assistant supervisor and six teachers were arrested along with their mobile phones for allegedly sharing the images of the paper.

A principal and the teachers are from government schools located in Anuradhapura and Nochchiyagama.

Investigations also revealed that the question paper has been sent to several areas, including Anuradhapura, Nochichiagama and Colombo.

Ceylon Teachers' Association president Priyantha Fernando confirmed the incident of copying the scholarship exam question paper by mobile phone.

"The confidence on the exam has been broken. The authorities should strictly implement the law and give severe punishment to all those who are responsible for the release of the question paper," Fernando said.

However, the Grade 5 scholarship examination for 2024 was held last Sunday (15) at 2,849 examination centres around the country.
