Heavy rain of 100mm on the cards

The Meteorology Department has warned that some areas in the Northern Province could experience heavy rainfall exceeding 100mm.

According to the department, showers or thundershowers are expected at various times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and North-Western Provinces, as well as in the Jaffna, Mannar and Kilinochchi districts. 

“Other areas of the island may also experience rain or thunderstorms in the evening or night. In addition to the heavy rain in the Northern Province, some areas elsewhere might experience fairly heavy showers exceeding 50mm,” it added.
