Colombo, November 29 (Daily Mirror)- Several roads and bridges were damaged due to the adverse weather situation that prevailed during the last few days, Director General of the Road Development Authority (RDA) S.P.M. Sooriyabandara said.

He said that many roads-particularly in the north, north central and Eastern provinces were heavily damaged.

“The RDA has taken steps to construct temporary bridges in place of the damaged bridges along the Colombo-Ratnapura-Wellawaya-Batiticaloa Road and Manampitiya Aralanganwila Road,” he said.

“A section of the 375/5 bridge along the Colombo-Ratnapura-Wellawaya-Batiticaloa Road caved in. However one lane of the road has been temporarily repaired by the RDA and steps are being taken to construct a temporary bridge.”

The Director General said the Manampitiya-Aralanganwila Road has been closed for traffic movement due to the collapse of the 19/1 bridge along the road.

“Construction of a temporary steel bridge has begun,” he noted.
