UNP MP Hirunika Premachandra yesterday lodged a complaint at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in regards to the release of allegedly edited audio clips of her telephone conversations with MP Ranjan Ramanayake to the public without consent from either parties involved.
Accordingly, she said that according to the Computer Crimes Act of Sri Lanka, it was illegal to publish a telephone conversation between two parties without the consent of both parties involved.
“ Currently, three audio clips of telephone conversations between me and Ranjan Ramanayake ,which have been maliciously edited, are being circulated in various social media websites such as YouTube and Facebook without my or MP Ramanayake’s consent,” she said.
Furthermore, MP Premachandra said it has not been proven that the voice heard during the entire conversation was her voice as there was no report from the Government Analyst proving the authenticity of her voice.
In addition, she challenged the perpetrators to release an unedited version of the audio clips to the public.
Moreover, she said she would not stop here and would take this issue to court as this incident has caused many issues for her in regards to her social and political career, especially as a woman.
“ I know the names and the origins of the perpetrators of editing these audio clips and I will reveal the names in the parliament session tomorrow,” MP Premachandra said yesterday.(Thisari Walawege)
