I’ll make country safe from drugs and underworld: PM

I will take action to put an end to underworld activities and the drug menace which had intensified during the tenure of the previous government, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Leader, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said today.

He told a SLPP rally held in Horana that the people in this country and especially the young generation face grave difficulties because of underworld activities and and drugs that a spreading across the country.

“Drug smuggling has increased to such an extent that the institutions set up to curb the drug menace and seize drugs have been infiltrated by drug smugglers. Drug smuggling and underworld activities being operated from within the prisons is a serious problem we face and the President has taken action to prevent this," the Prime Minister said.

Mr. Rajapaksa said the new government will pledge its fullest support to the President's drug eradication programme and underworld activities.

“I will launch and continue the investigations into drug-ralated activities and will reveal information about drug smuggling and underworld activities," he said. (Lahiru Pothmulla)
