Individuals deported from Dubai: Top police team to monitor probe

A seven-member committee comprising of senior police personnel and headed by Senior DIG of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Ravi Seneviratne, has been appointed by IGP Pujith Jayasundara today.  The aim being, to monitor investigations being carried out against the individuals who had been deported from Dubai to Sri Lanka, police said.

The committee comprises of DIG Ravi Seneviratne, Traffic Police DIG Ajith Rohana, Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) Director T. C. A. Dhanapala, CID Director Shani Abeysekera, Colombo Crimes Division Director, A.K.D.U. Hemantha, Colombo South Division DIG Nishantha de Soysa and Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekera.

Amal Perera’s son Nadeemal Perera, prison officer K. Lalith Kumara, notorious drug kingpin Mohommad Najim Mohammad Imran (alias Kanjipani Imran), Anushka Kaushal (alias Janga), Amila Sampath Sepala Ratnayake and Anderson Fernandez have been deported from Dubai to Sri Lanka.

Nadeemal Perera and the prison officer were deported on Tuesday (26), while Kanjipani Imran, Janga, Sampath Sepala and Anderson Fernandez were deported yesterday (28).

On arrival at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), they were taken for questioning under CID custody. Police released Nadeemal Perera on Wednesday (27) after recording his statement. However, all the suspects except Nadeemal Perera are still under police custody.

Thirty-one suspects including Makandure Madush, singer Amal Perera and his son Nadeemal, were arrested at a luxury hotel in Dubai on February 4.

Informed sources said the suspects in Dubai including Makandure Madush and singer Amal Perera are to be deported to Sri Lanka soon. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
