Inmates launch protest at Old Bogambara Prison

A group of inmates at the Old Bogambara Prison in Kandy have commenced a protest on the prison rooftop.

The prison has already been reserved as a quarantine centre for inmates.

At least 800 prison inmates have been sent for quarantine at the prison and 30 of them along with two officers have contracted Covid-19 as of today.

The protesting inmates have requested that they should be subjected to PCR tests as soon as possible, as they are also likely to be infected with the virus. They demand authorities to transfer them to another prison, in the event their requests are not accomodated.
