Colombo, July 12 (Daily Mirror)  - Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Kavinda Jayawardana today said he is ashamed of having voted against the Online Safety Bill.

"I voted against it as some people created a monster out of it. We were made to think that the Bill will take away our rights," he said.

"We were asked by our party to oppose it. I apologise for the mistake," he added.

The MP said he was trying to lodge a complaint against a defamatory comment made on him over social media.

"The relevant state officer told me that the Committee which looks into complaints made in line with the Bill is yet to be appointed. I urge the government to appoint the Committee and implement the Online Safety Bill as soon as possible," he said.
