Local Government polls soon after General Elections: EC

Colombo, Oct 3 (Daily Mirror) - The Election Commission has announced that it is geared to conduct the much-delayed 2023 Local Government Elections shortly after the upcoming General Elections. 

In a special statement, the Commission said dates for the Local Government elections will be announced soon after the General elections conclude.

The Commission’s announcement follows a series of legal proceedings and financial discussions regarding the allocation of funds required to conduct the elections. 

The Commission also said they had held initial discussions with key stakeholders, to ensure a smooth conduct of the Local Government Elections. 

“We have completed the necessary groundwork and will proceed with the Local Government Elections immediately after the General Elections,” the Commission reiterated.
