Low-pressure area over Bay of Bengal to intensify, approach Sri Lanka-Tamil Nadu by Dec. 11

Colombo, December 8 (Daily Mirror) - The low pressure area formed over south-east Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify further and move west-north-westwards during the next 24 hours and is likely to reach over south-west Bay of Bengal off tbr Sri Lanka-Tamil Nadu coasts around December 11, the Meteorology Department said.

Under its influence, showery conditions are expected to enhance in the Northern and Eastern Provinces from December 10. The North-east monsoon condition is also expected to establish gradually over the island along with these conditions.

Several spells of showers will occur in the Northern and Eastern Provinces.

Showers or thundershowers may occur in the Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces and in the Galle, Matara, Nuwara-Eliya and Kandy districts during the evening or night.

Fairly heavy showers about of 75mm are likely in the Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.

Misty conditions can be expected in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Uva, Western and North-Western Provinces during the morning.

The public is requested to take adequate precautions minimise damages caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
