Colombo, September 25 (Daily Mirror) - The People's Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL) today urged the public to maintain peace both before and after the general elections, just as they did during the Presidential election.

Addressing the media, Executive Director Rohana Hettiarachchi stated that no special preparations are required for the upcoming general elections, but the monitoring process will continue as usual.

"All arrangements have been made for monitoring the general elections. We had a clear understanding that the general elections would be held regardless of who is elected as President. However, election monitoring activities will commence at the district level during the nomination period," he said.

"No election law violations were reported before and after the Presidential election, which is a positive point for the country," he said.

He added that PAFFREL aims to maintain peace both before and after the general elections, as was done during the Presidential election.

However, during the past Presidential election, government powers and assets were largely misused to promote candidates.

PAFFREL today urged the public to uphold peace during the upcoming general elections, just as they had done during the previous election.
