More artistes take up active politics

Sri Lanka is to see the common phenomenon of artistes entering politics at this year’s General Election as well with a number of artistes entering the fray for the first time.

Veteran Sri Lankan actor Kamal Addararachchi announced his decision to contest in the upcoming General Election. Addararachchi told media that he will contest from the Devana Parapura Party which is led by Uvindu Wijeweera, son of Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) founder Leader Late Rohana Wijeweera.

In addition actress Damitha Abeyratne is to contest the General Election from Ratnapura under the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB).

In addition Actor Jagath Manuwarna is expected to contest under the National People's Power from Kandy District.
