Mother jumps into well with two differently-abled children; one boy dies

A mother from Kebithigollewa had jumped into a well along with two of her differently-abled children claiming that she could not bear the medical expenses of the two boys and the cost of living.

Police said a 21-year-old child of the woman had died in the tragedy while the woman and her 9-year-old younger son who was deaf were admitted to the Kebithigollewa Hospital. 

They were later transferred to the Anuradhapura Hospital for further treatment.

Police said the woman and the children were rescued by the villagers in the area.

It was reported that the husband of the woman who is a Civil Defence Security person was on duty at the time of the incident.

Investigations revealed the woman had pushed the children into the well and jumped as she couldn't take care of the boys.

Police are to take legal action against the woman over the incident.
