Names of more politicians who obtained money from President’s Fund to be released

Colombo, December 19 (Daily Mirror) - Cabinet Spokesman Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said today he will release the list of politicians who had obtained money from the President's Fund apart from the list of politicians he revealed in Parliament on Wednesday.

The Minister said an investigation is being conducted over the matter and assured to release more details once the investigation is completed.

"I presented the list of politicians who had obtained funds from the President's Fund from 2005 to 2024. There are more politicians who had done so during former president Chandrika Kumaratunga's tenure as well. We need to find more documents," he said.

The Minister said some Pradeshiya Sabha members, Pradeshiya Sabha chairmen, Provincial Council members, Provincial Council ministers had also obtained money from the Fund. I will reveal the list shortly," he said.

Responding to a question, the Minister said there are reports that some politicians had been given more than Rs. 10 million even through cash cheques in one go whereas ordinary people are given Rs. 500,000 in several installments.
