Nine reservoirs start spilling due to heavy rains

Colombo, November 5 (Daily Mirror) - A total of nine out of 73 major reservoirs have begun spilling due to heavy rains in the catchment areas, the Water Management Branch of the Irrigation Department reported.

According to their real-time major reservoir status, the reservoirs spilling include Batalagoda, Deduru Oya, Ellewela, Kekanadura, Rajangana, Tabbowa, Wan Ela, Weerawila, and Yodawewa.

Meanwhile, an advisory for severe lightning has been issued for 15 districts, including the Western, Southern, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva and North-Western Provinces.

The Forecasting Division of the National Meteorological Centre reported that thundershowers are expected in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva and Southern Provinces in the evening or at night.

Fairly heavy showers above 50 mm are likely in some areas.

Several spells of light showers may occur in the Northern and North-Western Provinces.

Misty conditions are expected in some areas of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Central Provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts during the morning.
