Over 280 prisoners get presidential pardon on Poson Day

Colombo, June 21 (Daily Mirror) -  A total of 289 prisoners are to be released today (21) on a presidential pardon in line with the Poson Poya Day. 

According to the Department of Prisons, inmates from prisons across the country, including 19 from the Welikada Prison, 30 from the Mahara Prison, 30 from Wariyapola Prison and 28 from Kalutara Prison will be released.

Furthermore, 283 males and six females are among those who will receive the Presidential pardons.

The prisoners will be released according to the powers vested with the President under Article 34 of the Constitution
