Pensioners to receive Rs. 6,000 with their October payments

Colombo, August 12 (Daily Mirror) - All pensioners will receive an additional Rs. 6,000 with their October pension payments. This amount includes a Rs. 3,000 interim allowance for October and Rs. 3,000 in allowance arrears that were due in September, Finance State Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said.

A Cabinet Paper on this matter was presented by the President, and the proposal was approved in the decisions. In addition to the Rs. 2,500 extra payment for April, a Rs. 3,000 interim allowance was approved to be paid starting in October till the salary anomalies are resolved.

Minister Siyambalapitiya pointed out that including the arrears payment of Rs.3,000 to be received from September, Rs.6,000 will be paied in October. 

The Finance Ministry has also given full written approval for the payment of this additional allowance of Rs. 3,000 and the Public Administration Ministry should issue a circular for this purpose.

He also said that since an election has been announced, the Election Commission has objected to giving that allowance in September.
