Colombo, October 29 (Daily Mirror) - Police have initiated investigations into reports of tourists, including Israeli nationals, allegedly engaging in activities outside of leisure, such as business and religious practices, while on tourist visas in Arugam Bay.
Cabinet spokesman Vijitha Herath said this at the post-Cabinet media briefing today (29), noting that past incidents suggest some tourists may have engaged in businesses, religious or even illegal activities while on visitor visas.
Herath clarified that at present, all foreign nationals in Arugam Bay, including Israelis, are registered on tourist visas.
However, he emphasized that authorities have urged the public to report any instances where tourists might be involved in activities beyond what is permissible under tourist visa regulations.
"Hotels in the area have also been advised to alert authorities if any guests are found engaging in employment, business or other activities deemed inappropriate for those on holiday in Sri Lanka," he added.
