Colombo, Oct 23 (Daily Mirror) - In anticipation of an influx of foreign tourists during the upcoming tourism season, the Sri Lanka Police said that steps have been taken to implement a special security program aimed at ensuring their safety.

Police said that creating a safe environment for tourists who come to Sri Lanka is a collective responsibility.

Accordingly, considering the conflicts in the Middle East and Eastern Europe, the Sri Lanka Police and intelligence agencies decided to prepare and implement a special security program for the safety of foreign tourists.

Police said that the program is being coordinated with the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Public Security.

The Police Tourism Division will be strengthened, with special instructions set to be issued by Acting Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasuriya to all police stations.

Starting today, tourists can report any security concerns to the Sri Lanka Police hotline at 1997.

Police have also urged hotel owners and tourism industry staff to take proactive measures to safeguard tourists and their belongings.

In addition, they cautioned against potential threats from thieves and inappropriate behavior from certain employees, calling for heightened vigilance from all parties involved in the tourism sector.
