Police urge public to celebrate election results peacefully

Colombo, Sep 21 (Daily Mirror) - The Sri Lanka Police have urged citizens to celebrate the results peacefully, regardless of the outcome of the presidential election, and to support law enforcement in maintaining order throughout the country.

Police Spokesman DIG Nihal Thalduwa said at a media conference today (21) that special security measures have been implemented following the end of voting at 4 PM. 

He said that security measures will remain in effect till the final election results are announced.

DIG Thalduwa said that during the post-election period and one week after, all forms of public marches, whether by vehicle or on foot, are strictly prohibited. 

Citizens are advised to adhere to these regulations.
