Colombo, June 17 (Daily Mirror) - In a significant move under the ‘Urumaya’ national programme, President Ranil Wickremesinghe today distributed 1,524 freehold deeds to eligible Mahaweli, Walawe settlers.
The distribution took place at the Embilipitiya Mahaweli office auditorium.
This initiative is part of the larger ‘Urumaya’ programme, which aims to grant two million freehold deeds nationwide.
Out of the 45,253 eligible settlers in the Mahaweli, Walawe region, 1,524 received their deeds today.
In addition to today's distribution, the President also engaged in a symbolic deed distribution ceremony yesterday in the Mannar district.
Held at the Mannar Municipal Council auditorium, President Wickremesinghe awarded 442 out of the allocated 5,000 land deeds to the local residents.
