Colombo, August 30 (Daily Mirror) - President Ranil Wickremesinghe said that he intends to ease the tax burden on the public over the next two years while adhering to the agreements the country has reached with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the 18 countries that have provided loans.
He emphasized that the IMF agreement intended to increase the income sources of the people and provide relief by strengthening the rupee. The country has also signed agreements with the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank.
“Today, other candidates are promising to reduce the prices of goods and offer subsidies, but I don't make such promises. Our subsidies are aimed at increasing people's sources of income and boosting production.
This approach not only raises income but also creates more employment opportunities,” claimed Wickremesinghe.
