A special meeting between President Ranil Wickremesinghe and representatives from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is set to take place today (26) to discuss the initial review of the Extended Fund Facility.

The review sessions, which began on the 14th, are aimed at evaluating Sri Lanka’s progress in implementing the economic reforms proposed by the IMF as part of the Extended Fund Facility.

The Finance Ministry has emphasised that these discussions have focused on securing the second installment of the Extended Fund Facility and bolstering confidence in the nation’s economic stability.

Consequently, the final meeting of these discussions, spanning nearly two weeks, will be conducted under the leadership of Wickremesinghe.

Following this meeting, it is expected that a staff-level agreement related to the disbursement of the second installment of the US $ 3 billion IMF Extended Fund Facility will be signed.

Sources said Wickremesinghe convened an important Cabinet meeting yesterday afternoon to deliberate on the specifics of these agreements.

After the discussions with the IMF mission, Wickremesinghe is scheduled to leave for Germany to take part in ‘Global Berlin Dialoue’.
