Presidential election to be held first, President informs Cabinet

Colombo, May 22 (Daily Mirror) -  Despite speculations that a General Election will precede a Presidential election, President Ranil Wickremesinghe has informed the Cabinet today that the Presidential election will be held first this year. 

During the Cabinet meeting held this morning, President Wickremesinghe emphasized that the Presidential election should be held within the specified period this year in accordance with the Constitution. 

The Election Commission officially announced on May 09th that the Presidential election will be held between September 17 and October 16.

Accordingly, the presidential election will be declared between the end of July and the early part of August.
