Public Admin. Ministry Secy apologises to EC over his letter

Public Administration Ministry Secretary Neil Bandara Hapuhinne apologized to the Election Commission for issuing a letter to the Returning Officers asking them not to accept deposits from candidates for the Local Government Election.

Commissioner General of Elections Saman Sri Rathnayake said he made this apology when he was summoned before Commission today over the said letter.

He said Mr. Hapuhinne told the elections commission that he issued the letter to implement the Cabinet decision and he did not have any intention or purpose to interfere in the activities of the elections commission. (Ajith Siriwardana)
