Colombo, August 31 (Daily Mirror) - Presidential candidate and former Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL), Janaka Ratnayake, pledged that his first priority upon being elected President will be to reduce fuel prices by Rs. 150.
Speaking at a media briefing, Ratnayake referred to the Central Bank bond scam as the largest financial fraud in the country's history.
However, according to the Auditor General’s report, the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) was involved in a Rs. 36 billion fraud in 2022, linked to fuel imports. This issue has already been reported to the Bribery and Corruption Commission, he said.
He also said that the procurement, purchase, transportation and distribution of fuel had led to the largest scam in Sri Lanka, involving both politicians and high-ranking government officials.
"In 2022, I said that fuel prices could be reduced by Rs. 200. Now, the reduction can be Rs. 150, and I will implement this within the first month of my presidency," he added.
