Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MPs Harsha de Silva, Eran Wickramaratne and Kabir Hashim briefed the IMF officials in Sri Lanka last night on the amendments their party seeks to make to the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) agreement which Sri Lanka has signed with the organisation.
“We had a long discussion with IMF Head of Programmes Sri Lanka, Peter Breuer and explained to him the amendments which a future SJB government intends to bring to the EFF agreement,” MP De Silva told the Daily Mirror.
“We presented our proposals in writing and the people will be able to know about these soon,” he added.
“We are not against the EFF agreement but what we intend doing is to ensure that the Sri Lankan people get quick concessions. The SJB has already made it clear that it is essential to make some amendments to the EFF agreements and we shall do it under our government,” he added.
This meeting comes amidst claims by President Ranil Wickremesinghe that it is not possible to amend the agreement with the IMF, the creditor nations and the international sovereign bond holders.
