Colombo, July 01 (Daily Mirror) - The Sri Lankan fisherman who was critically ill after consuming an unknown substance found in a bottle floating in the sea was handed over to the SLNS Vijayabahu from the Singaporean merchant ship 'MV Kota Camil'.
The Navy said the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Colombo coordinated the retrieval of two critically ill fishermen on the multi-day fishing trawler “Devon 5”, through the merchant ship ‘MV Kota Camil'.
However, one of the two fishermen had tragically lost his life while aboard the merchant ship. The remaining fisherman was transferred to the SLNS Vijayabahu last evening, about 170 nautical miles (314 kms) off Dondra.
The Navy medical team aboard SLNS Vijayabahu is providing emergency treatment to the critically ill fisherman. Additionally, SLNS Vijayabahu is en route to shore carrying the body of the other fisherman who lost his life on 'MV Kota Camil'.
