Colombo, Jan. 18 (Daily Mirror) - The Minister of Sports Harin Fernando has instructed the Director General of Sports to provide equal opportunities for Sri Lankan youth to attain qualifications for the Summer Olympic Games in Paris, France, starting on July 26.

Minister Fernando will secure special approval from the Cabinet of Ministers for the innovative programme, ‘Road to Olympics.’

This initiative ensures that Sri Lankan athletes receive all necessary facilities and funding to participate in crucial Olympic Qualifiers and international competitions from January to July, aiming to meet the qualification standards.

The National Sports Council has carefully selected 44 top athletes from various sports disciplines to represent the country.

This historic opportunity marks the first time in Sri Lanka’s 74-year Olympic history that such a comprehensive initiative has been undertaken to support and elevate the country’s athletes.
