Polonnaruwa, October 23 (Daily Mirror)- Security has been beefed up in special areas on suspicion that foreign groups in Sri Lanka could face an attack following intelligence reports on potential threats to Sri Lanka from terrorist groups by October, after the escalation of the war situation in the Middle East, Acting IGP Priyantha Wijesuriya said today.

He told a news conference at the Polonnaruwa SSP's office that the decision was taken by the National Security Council (NSC) which met with the participation of the President on Monday.

The Acting IGP said that the NSC met this morning also to take decisions on the security situation.

He said security of all foreigners in Sri Lanka has been ensured and that all embassies have been informed of the situation.

He also said there are no attacks planned on local people and requested the public to inform the nearest police if there is any information of a terrorist threat or attack.
