Parliament, September 4 (Daily Mirror)- Some 75,000 vehicle permits issued to government employees for the last five years are still pending and this was informed to the IMF, World Bank and the donor institutions, Parliamentarian Wajira Abeywardana said today.
He told Parliament that President Ranil Wickremesinghe will allow the import of vehicles on permits after his re-election.
The MP said permits are issued to government employees as they get limited salary scales and that they either purchase the vehicles or sell the permits for their requirements.
"There is a traffic of 75,000 vehicle permits issued to government employees during the last five years. The Finance Ministry has already informed this to the IMF, World Bank and donor institutions," he said.
