Southern Expressway accident kills infant, injures 12

Colombo, August 14 (Daily Mirror) - A 2-year-old child was killed, and 12 others were injured in an accident near Elpitiya on the Southern Expressway this morning.

The accident occurred when a van traveling from Mattala to Kottawa struck the safety fence in the middle of the highway due to a tire blowout.

Among the injured were 12 adults and three children. The injured were taken to Elpitiya Hospital, where a 2-year-old girl from Kataragama was pronounced dead.

The Elpitiya Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
